Discontinuation of teaching and examination activities

Translation as per 18 March 2020

KIT has decided to discontinue teaching and exam operations from March 17 to April 19, 2020. The KIT crisis management team has prepared guidelines for employees and students.

During this period, some special regulations apply to students and doctoral candidates. The advisory offices of the faculty have compiled some recommendations and notes in this context, which you will find in the table below. Due to the dynamic development the regulations may change and deadlines may be postponed further. The table will then be updated.

Topic Note
Orientation exam/maximum duration of studies Should it not be possible to meet the specified deadlines due to the cancellation of examination events, the responsible examination board will grant an extension of the deadline upon request. Applications must be sent to the examination board by e-mail, and payment of the semester fee will be handled by the Student Services.
Deadlines for repeat examinations Until it has been determined whether an extension of the deadline is necessary, the Examination Committee asks to refrain from applications.
Written examinations Written examinations may no longer be offered and have been postponed indefinitely, or if the situation is reasonably safe. It is not necessary to cancel examinations which do not take place. The cancellation will be handled by the examiners if necessary.
Oral examinations Oral examinations may no longer be held as of 17.03.2020. All examinations and events are cancelled up to and including 19.04.2020.
Final examinations Final examinations: All academic assessments are cancelled up to and including 19.04.2020, therefore final examinations/dissertations up to and including 19.04.2020 must also be interrupted (without disadvantage; i.e. automatic extension by 5 weeks). The interruption must be documented by the institutes. This means that the supervisors of internal/external theses are responsible.

The start of new dissertations can take place after 19.4. at the earliest.

If only the written thesis has to be handed in and can be completed in the home office, please contact the supervisor and the physics examination secretariat to arrange an electronic submission. Printouts can then be submitted at a later date.
Doctoral Examination The doctoral examinations scheduled for April 24, 2020, will be held in a closed session, unless there are new insights by then. Translated from the Department of Physics Homepage.
